THE HAPPY FARMER SUZUKI CELLO SERIES
Each series of books for a particular instrument in the Suzuki Method is considered a Suzuki music school, such as the Suzuki Cello School. Students are taught using the "mother-tongue" approach. According to Shinichi Suzuki, a world-renowned violinist and teacher, the greatest joy an adult can know comes from developing a child's potential so he/she can express all that is harmonious and best in human beings. The Suzuki Method of Talent Education is based on Shinichi Suzuki's view that every child is born with ability, and that people are the product of their environment.

I am getting through one and two octave scales without looking at my left hand. I am suppose to be using the pattern my instructor exposed me to above to nail this – but right now, it is just not working.

The hardest part for me is on the first slur (measure 2) the dotted ¼ note C to the 1/8 note E into a new slur that begins with a dotted quarter note G back down to a 1/8 note C. The Happy Farmer is a melody from Robert Schumanns Album for the Young, Op. So after a few scales using this pattern, I tried to play “The Happy Farmer”. To help prep for this piece, my instructor had me do some scales with the following pattern (one note per): down (2/3 bow), down (remaining 1/3 bow), up (2/3 bow), up (remaining 1/3 bow), etc… for one or two octaves. Probably about 30-45 minutes was spent on Suzuki – Book 1 – Ex. I was able to practice between 4 and 5 hours this past weekend.
